Heading/rubric: ‘Hibernia insola inter duos filios principales Militis’
Genealogical tract, edited by Kuno Meyer, ‘The Laud genealogies and tribal histories’, Zeitschrift für celtische Philologie 8 (1912): 291–302. A historical framework is established in the beginning of the tract: (a) an introductory paragraph in Latin (beg. Hibernia insola inter duos filios principales Militis); (b) a genealogical exposition of the early kings and chiefs of Ireland which following the scheme adopted in Lebor gabála, generally focuses on the line of descent from Érimón, through his son Íriel and grandson Ethriel, down to Cobthach and further down to the sons of Níall; (c) The focus then shifts towards Éogan mac Néill (a quo Cenél nÉogain), whose many sons are listed, notably Muiredach, Eochu, Bindech and Fergus. From here, a good part of the tract is concerned with the Cenél nÉogain, followed by sections on the Cenél Conaill, Fothairt and Síl nÁeda Sláne. For corresponding sections in LL and Raw. B 502, see O'Brien, CGH.
