The sequence of events presented:
  • During Eadwine’s reign, the sons of Æthelfrith (together with many young nobles) remain in exile among the Irish or the Picts (apud Scottos siue Pictos).
  • Eadwine ... king of Northumbria dies in battle and Northumbria is divided again:
    • Osric, son of Ælfric (uncle of Eadwine) becomes king of Deira;
    • Eanfrith (Eanfrid), son of Æthelfrith, returns from exile and becomes king of Bernicia.
