Item description
Around the time that Clídna washed ashore on Tonn Chlídna, the world experienced a sea-burst (muir-brúcht) which caused three consecutive floods (mór-tuili) over Ireland:

(1) that of Clídna, (2) that of Ladru/Ladra (called the middle one) and (3) that of Baile [R; alias Bale in Bodl.].

The first flood overtook the boat on the strand (trácht) and drowned the girl [Clídna] in her sleep. Hence the name Tonn Chlídna ‘Clídna’s Wave’.

Stokes seems to identify Bale with the mythical horse Balius (Βάλιος) from Homer’s Iliad.
