Flyleaf

[Preface to Leabhar Bhriain Mhe Guidhir (Dublin, Trinity College, MS 1297)] Heading/rubric: ‘Ag so leabhar Bhriain Mhe Guidhir, mic Chonchubhair Mhodartha, mic Bhriain mic Sheain mic Fheidhlime Dhuibh mic Ghiolla Pádraig mic Éamuinn na Cúile’
A flyleaf containing a preface to the manuscript, saying that it is the book of Brian Mág Uidhir, whose pedigree is given and whose generosity to everyone high and low, to poets and musicians and to the needy and the poor, is praised as well as his role in preserving and renewing manuscripts. Gwynn (recte Abbott) suggests that its scribe and author is not Seán Mac Gabhran but another, “trained scribe”.
