772.4. The assembly of the ‘hand-clapping’ (óenach inna lám-comarthe) took place; there was lightning and thunder (ignis ⁊ tonitru), like the day of judgment (similitudine diei iudicii). It was St Michael’s Day [date, 29 Sept., supplied in a later hand], which called fire from heaven. 772.6. Because of fear of [said] fire, the Irish fasted for three days, followed by a single meal and another fasting period of three days.
Discussed by Alexandra Bergholm, ‘What was the ‘assembly of the ‘hand-clapping’’ in AU 772?’, Proceedings of the Harvard Celtic Colloquium 33 (2014).
