Cú Chulainn goes to Letha to be trained in arms [lit. to attain suíthe cles] by Scáthach nÚanaind, daughter of Ardgeimm. He is approached by Aífe, daughter of Ardgeimm, who has a sexual affair with him and becomes pregnant.

He gives her a golden thumb-ring, telling her that she will bear him a son and that as soon as the ring fits him, he is to visit him in Ireland. While searching for him, the boy is not to stray from his path, make himself known to anyone or refuse combat.
