Synagōgē pasōn lexeōn kata stoicheion ‘Alphabetical collection of all words’

An extensive lexicon of the Greek language, prepared by a fifth-century Greek scholar and grammarian called Hesychius of Alexandria. It is a prefaced with a letter in which he claims to have drawn on a number of earlier works, notably a lexicon compiled by Diogenianus, which no longer survives. The lexicon includes many unusual words and phrases, mostly derived from dialectal and poetic speech. The only surviving manuscript text is late (15th century) and represents an interpolated and much abridged version.
