- Late Old Irish. Kaarina Hollo has concluded that “the general conservatism of the verbal system, the relatively high incidence of the neuter article and the handling of suffixed pronouns in LMDD are not inconsistent with a late Old Irish date of composition”; there are some later (e.g. Middle Irish) innovations to be found in the transmitted text, but on balance, LMDD “is best regarded as a text first written in the late Old Irish period that was subject to a certain amount of revision in the course of its manuscript transmission”.(1)n. 1 Kaarina Hollo, Fled Bricrenn ocus Loinges mac nDuíl Dermait and its place in the Irish literary and oral narrative traditions (2005): 38–49.
