A Dungal refers to himself in line 3 and is often identified with the Irish scholar and poet Dungal (of Saint-Denis).
The Baldo to whom the poem is addressed has been identified with the person of this name, teacher in the cathedral school of Salzburg, who wrote a copy of Adomnán’s De locis sanctis and other works in Vienna, ÖNB, MS 458.(1)n. 1 Ludwig Bieler • Denis Meehan, ‘Adamnani de locis sanctis libri tres’ in Adamnan’s De locis sanctis...
