The uppermost panel on the high cross of Camus, Co. Derry, displays a scene which has yet to be satisfactorily identified by previous scholars. Based on iconographic comparisons with continental depictions of the Nativity and similarities with a panel on the Broken Cross at Kells, Co. Meath, this article will suggest a new identification for the panel as the ‘Bathing of the Christ Child’.
