[EN] Armorican coinage : a series of gold staters from “Vendée”.
A conspectus of Armorican coinage has given us an opportunity to identify a little known gold series the characteristics of which are : on the obverse, a head surrounded by cordons of pearls and a triple or quadruple bracket from the neck to the nose ; on the reverse, a flower motif beneath the human-headed horse. Two groups can be distinguished. Out of the eight coins recorded six were analysed : the results correspond to our recent general view about the alteration of gold. Even if few finds have been localized, we suggest that this perhaps short-lived coinage could have been produced by a tribe from the South of the Loire, perhaps in the north of Vendée.
