Counting manuscripts by century
Since CODECS is progressive and does not claim to be exhaustive, this overview is merely meant to be reflective of the current scope and progress being made. It should not be taken as representative of the actual number of extant manuscripts written during these periods in any of the categories below. Note also that there are multiple factors that will add to some distortion in data. Indications of date are wanting for 122 manuscripts and no language has been specified for 46 manuscripts. Manuscripts whose termini occur in more than one century are likewise represented in more than one century. Finally, composite manuscripts as well as their individual units may be included when they are historically distinct, leading to further duplication of numbers.
Latin manuscripts
Welsh-language manuscripts
Irish-language manuscripts
Manuscripts (usually Latin) with additions or minor content in any of the Celtic languages
