Notes

*Augen Aurgnaid: his sons are enumerated in the rhymeless poem beg. Eochu Ferngen (Meyer's Verzeichnis der Söhne von Augen Aurgnaid). It is difficult to disentangle their proper names from adjectives or epithets. A tentative list of 13 names, as counted in the later prose commentary, has been reconstructed by Johan Corthals, ‘Some observations on the versification of the rhymeless ‘Leinster poems’’, Celtica 21 (1990): 123, as follows: Eochu Ferngen, Finteng, Aucha, Eriu Orb, Alb, Rogen, red (rúad) Donaille, Nár, Noe, Ladrann, Lergnaid, Luad Cuar, and fair (cáin) Másc. See also John Carey, ‘The origin and development of the Cesair legend’, Éigse 22 (1987): 47 for a possible connection of some of the names (Ériu, Noe, Ladru) to Irish migration legends. Alb recurs in another Leinster poem.
Aucha (cf. Óengus Aucha) is associated in a gloss with Cenél nAucha.
